  • low maintenance backyard; Unsplash To take proper care of your home you must maintain your backyard. These five ideas will help you to focus on the key chores. 1 . Feed your lawn To keep your backyard nice and healthy you must feed your lawn. Unless you give your lawn extra nutrients the grass can turn thin and pale. You may also find that your lawn is invaded by moss and weeds. Feeding your lawn regularly will ensure that your lawn is green and thick. If you’re looking for a natural fertilizer, Epsom salt is a fantastic option. Epsom salt is made from sulfur and magnesium, both ingredients can improve the health of your grass. Crushed eggshells can also act as a great fertilizer for plants, you can position these at the stems of your plants and veggies, and then add a layer of soil over the top. 2. Wash your fences Your fences are exposed to all kinds of dirt and weather conditions, over time they can end up looking grubby and dull. The best way to clean your fences is to use a power washer. Mildew and mold can easily build up on your fences, these conditions tend to attract insects, when insects invade this can weaken the wood. When you power wash your fence this can increase the lifespan of your fences, and keep your backyard looking fresh. 3. Prune your trees Pruning your trees is important for several different reasons, you might need to remove branches that are broken or dangerous or branches that carry disease. Pruning can help to improve the structure of your trees or keep them from coming in close contact with your home. According to the Arboricultural Association, ‘To remove the branch, a sequence of step cuts should be made with a shallow cut being made first on the underside leading to a top cut outside i.e. past, the underside cut.’ Removing a branch like this will ensure that the branch does not tear down the stem, leaving a wound that damages the tree. 4. Maintain your septic tank If you have a septic tank in your backyard you must maintain it properly. Experts recommend that you’ll need septic pumping services at least every 3 years. General maintenance tips for your septic tank include: Ensure that you keep trees a good distance away from your septic tank. Try to conserve water around the home. Look out for signs that your septic tank is full, (for example your drains are slow, you notice gurgling pipes and odors). 5. Clear your guttering It’s important to clear debris out of your guttering, if your guttering becomes clogged this can easily cause issues with your roof and your property. You might be able to clear out your gutters by yourself, if you don’t feel confident to get up on your roof you can always call a roofing expert. Attending these five chores will help you to keep your backyard in great condition. Once you’ve sorted out the practical issues you can think about beautifying your backyard with some backyard decor ideas.black metal framed round basket with brown and white throw pillows
