I want to give you all an opportunity to pay it forward….but FIRST: Many of you know my story about going from morbidly obese to super fit to not being able to stand for more than 3 minutes at a time. I’m happy to report that last week I officially graduated from physical therapy, have lost 30 lbs since Christmas and am on round TWO of The Master’s Hammer & Chisel.

I am now able to continue my volunteer work at the school, but more importantly – I have been able to avoid beta blockers by making drastic changes in my lifestyle and diet (such as doubling salt and water intake to boost my blood volume, and basically doing leg day every single day – doctor’s orders!).

I am no longer letting my health dictate how I am able to spend my time!

You’ve probably heard of “paying it forward” from the myriad of stories shared on Facebook:

  • someone having paid for their meal in the drive through
  • a couple with a large family going to pay for their meal and someone had already covered it for them (just saw this story this morning from a friend who went out to eat with her family last night!)

  • someone in business class giving up their seat for a veteran

There are so many positive, uplifting stories about people who pay it forward. Can we collectively agree to pay it forward once per week? It doesn’t necessarily have to be financial – you could pay it forward in other ways…such as shoveling a neighbor’s driveway, or if you’re doing some canning you can drop off a jar at a friend’s house.

I want to make it easier for you to give back…I’m giving away a $100 Visa gift card. To enter, all you have to do is post a comment below with how and why you’ll give back to your community! I’d also love to hear if you or a loved one lives with medical technology.

  1. We used to live in the shelter, now that we are out and when we get extra money, i make a Big bunch of burritos and pass them out to the homeless.

  2. I feel I often give back to my community by simple acts of kindness, like greeting strangers i pass with a big smile and a hello, or striking up a conversation even with strangers while out and about. I think in this broken world kindness matters!

I volunteer at Texas Children’s Hospital, with an organization call “Dec My Room”. They talk to kiddos, and teens, who are stuck on the 9th (cancer) floor long term, and ask them what their favorite things are. Volunteers then go shop for things to “dec” that child’s room, go in one day while the child is in some sort of treatment, and bring them back to a wonderful surprise!! So I’d pay it forward my dec-ing a room for free and not letting the organization pay me back for the supplies!!
